The presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in the 2023 elections, Dr. Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, has expressed his displeasure and sadness over the massive blackout that has affected Northern Nigeria for about eight days.
In a message posted on his X page on Monday, Kwankwaso described the situation as disheartening and pathetic.
“It is about time we look into alternative power sources to meet our energy needs and take advantage of the abundant resources available in this country,” he stated.
He also called on governors to prioritize alternative power sources to address the region’s energy needs.
Dr. Kwankwaso emphasized, “It is very disheartening that many parts of Northern Nigeria are in total darkness today due to vandalism on the important 330kV Shiroro-Kaduna power line that supplies Kano and Kaduna, along with another line that serves Bauchi, Gombe, and other parts of the northeast.”

He further noted, “This situation has been compounded by the high cost of petrol and diesel in Nigeria, which has plunged homes into darkness and forced factories to close.”
The NNPP presidential candidate added, “The time taken to address this crisis underscores the severe capacity deficit in our power sector, which must be resolved to prevent future disruptions.”
Dr. Kwankwaso concluded, “I encourage all state governments and private investors to invest in alternative electricity sources, as we did in Kano by installing two turbines at the Challawa Gorge and Tiga Dams to reduce reliance on our inadequate and outdated energy infrastructure.”
