The former Commissioner for Rural and Community Development in Kano State, Dr. Ilyasu Musa Kwankwaso, has criticized the state government’s plan to establish a committee to investigate the killing of four individuals during a demolition exercise in Rimin Zakara, located in the Kumbotso Local Government Area.
He emphasized that instead of forming a committee, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and his commissioners for Land and Works should personally visit the affected families to offer their condolences, in order to alleviate the tension caused by the incident in the state.
Kwankwaso argued that such direct engagement is essential for addressing the crisis and urged the government to compensate the families of the deceased and provide alternative land to those whose properties were demolished.
He, however, added that “the government’s repeated denial of involvement in the demolition exercise is futile and uncalled for adding that it can be described by the residents of the area, as lies from the pit of hell.”
He highlighted that “Using lethal force to render the poor homeless is an act of crude cruelty. State violence against the underprivileged must end.”

He urged the state government to adopt a more humane and inclusive approach to urban planning, ensuring the rights and lives of vulnerable residents are protected.
Kwankwaso who however recalled that “Multiple local radio stations have reported that officials from the Ministry of Land were seen with security personnel during the demolitions,”
He further alleged that the demolition exercise revealed Governor Yusuf’s lack of control over his administration, claiming he was being manipulated by NNPP leader Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
“The NNPP government in Kano will bring nothing but suffering, loss of lives, and destruction of properties, as evidenced by what happened in Rimin Zakara,” he said.
