The Chairman, Senate Committee on Labour Employment and Productivity, and Vice Chairman of the Federal Character Committee, Senator Diket Plang, have commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for living up to expectations and prioritizing the safety and security of Nigerians, particularly the rescue of the 137 schoolchildren kidnapped in Kaduna State recently.
Senator Plang, in a statement, equally praised Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State, the military and other stakeholders for their doggedness, courage, and determination displayed in the course of rescuing the children, adding that the efforts of the military, in particular, go to show that the criminal elements can be degraded.
He urged the federal government and the security agencies not to rest on their oars towards ensuring that acts of criminality, particularly the wave of kidnapping in the country, are tamed.

“Also, the citizens need to be more alert and more observant of their movements. While the security agencies at this critical moment should be more determined and resolute to root out these criminals wherever they are hibernating, they equally need the corporation and the support of every Nigerian to achieve this feat.”
Senator Plang, who is also the Senator representing Plateau Central of Plateau State, equally tasked the security agencies to liaise with both the state and the federal governments to come up with security arrangements that will halt cases of abduction of schoolchildren, which is gradually becoming a recurring decimal threatening the peace and safety of schools, particularly in the northern part of the country.
“The security agencies cannot do a clinical job without the support of the citizenry; they need information to act upon. Therefore, Nigerians should take it upon themselves as a responsibility to always provide necessary information whenever the need arises.
“Schools should be protected; the Parent Teachers Association (PTA) and the school authorities need to collaborate in this regard and be more concerned about the safety of their children. Where necessary, there should be perimeter fencing and the engagement of local security men like the vigilante, among others.“
