The Kogi State chapter of the Nigeria Veterinary Medical Association has appealed to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo to immediately consider the harmonization and implementation of the Revised Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) approved by the immediate past governor for all doctors in the state civil service.
It pointed out that the implementation was carried out only for human doctors in the state, neglecting the veterinary doctors.
The association commended the governor for fulfilling his campaign promises of paying its members a 100% hazard allowance. Speaking to newsmen on Tuesday at their state secretariat, the Chairman of the association, Dr. Tolu Omotugba, expressed gratitude on behalf of veterinarians and all health workers in the state, acknowledging the governor’s positive actions and promising to serve the state with their best abilities and intellect.
The State Chairman, who mentioned that this gesture has significantly boosted their morale, leading to the discharge of their duties without complaint, also promised to collaborate with the governor to fulfill his health agenda for the state.
The NVMA also extended its gratitude to the former administration under the leadership of Alhaji Yahaya Bello for recruiting 26 of its members into the state civil service and creating an enabling environment for them to carry out their duties by signing into law the Meat Hygiene and Animal Control Bill.
The NVMA chairman highlighted that the recruitment was a novel initiative, the first of its kind in the state, which would prevent the government from scrambling to other states during emergencies related to animal-related diseases.
