Kogi guber: PDP delegates tasked on women, youths’ interest

Delegates to the forthcoming governorship primary election of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi state were on Monday told to choose a candidate with strong interest in women and the youth for the party.

Addressing women leaders of the party in Lokoja, the state capital, Hajia Rakiya Abubakar, the wife of a frontline aspirant, Abubakar Ibrahim, said the election is about improving the qualities of the lives of women and youths across the state.

According to her,  Abubakar had packaged programmes and policies that would improve the well-being of women. 

She said the time to place the welfare of the family far and above other consideration, ensure sustainable empowerment for women and children is now, saying it is achievable under the leadership of Abubakar Ibrahim if elected.

She added that making women attain their dreams and aspiration remains her focus, saying aspiration is realisable only with the victory of Abubakar Ibrahim’s as she urged the women to take ownership of the Abubakar Ibrahim project.

Barr. Rekiya Abubakar described women as the bedrock, Power and structure of the society, said even though there are several aspirants seeking to be governor’s of the state, Abubakar Ibrahim is a good father, businessman, leader that Kogi would be proud of as governor of the state when elected.



A former acting governor of the state, Clarence Olafemi, former governor of Kogi state, described the Abubakar’s governorship aspiration as one that would stop the drift in the state.

Olafemi urged the delegates of the forthcoming party primaries to embrace the aspiration as one borne out of the need to give women and children a future.

The former governor urged the women PDP leaders across the local government areas to continue with their support for Abubakar Ibrahim’s aspiration, insisting that if elected the sufferings of women and children in the last few years would be a thing of the past.

In her remarks, Margaret Orebiyi, PDP State Women Leader, said the PDP would win in the November governorship election, urged the women to ensure a vigorous sensitization advocacy that would make the difference, noting that there is no alternative to the PDP in Kogi state.
