A socio-political pressure group, Okun Youth Movement, has urged the candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Hon Leke Abejide, to galvanize support for Senator Dino Melaye, the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)
Rising from an emergency meeting in Lokoja, Kogi State capital, the Director of Operation, Strategy and Mobilisation, Comrade Olalekan Ajayi, said, ” it is high time Okun Nation avoid the mistake of restricting itself to Senatorial District politicking that ultimately ends up at our backyard! We must come out as a united front with a purposeful mindset of making ourselves relevant politically post-2023 elections.”
“Going by the political happenstance in Kogi State in the last 96 hours, it is right to say the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been dealt a hammer blow, and no one knows when the party will recover from the political somersault.
“For instance, Kogi East Senatorial District, purportedly to have been won by APC, has been temporarily aborted, leaving just 5 days to the Kogi election before knowing his fate, while Kogi Central, where the Governor hails from, has been a beehive of ceremonies and celebrations, because of the overwhelming victory of the People’s choice, Natasha Akpoti – Uduaghan of the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP)
According to the Spokesperson of the group, “It is audible to the deaf and visible to the blind that Dino Melaye is coasting to victory when we put our house (Kogi West) in proper trajectory.”
He noted that going forward, it is imperative to seize this rare opportunity to present one candidate who will fly the flag of the overall Interest of the Okun Nation in our long quest to become the governor since the creation of the State in 1991!
“It is glaring, we are not short of resources and personnel. We are not just working out our plans spot-on. And the time is Now!
“After juxtaposing the pros and cons, it is evidently clear that Dino Melaye fits the bill, with due respect to other candidates, without undermining their esteemed personalities.
“We have concluded after going through the CV of the other Candidates from Okun extraction that Dino Melaye is in an advantageous position to win the election vis a vis political spread, widespread acceptance, capacity, intellectual sagacity, superlative legislative antecedence, International networking, unmitigated experience, public opinion polls, etc.”
“We, therefore, as a matter of importance, implore our highly – revered traditional institutions, political gladiators, critical Stakeholders, etc., irrespective of party affiliations, to urgently mediate into this political fragmentation in order not to go into a battlefield nakedly exposed before the contest.”
“A house divided against itself can’t thrive!”
For the records, “Dino Melaye in Kogi East is a colossus and firebrand needing no introduction. In Kogi Central, he is a dinosaur and proper son of the soil in whom the people are well-pleased. In Kogi West, he is known as a phenomenon in view of his accelerated infrastructural drives and human capital development.
