A suspect, Adamu (surname withheld) accused of allegedly killing a National Youth Service Corps member serving in Kaduna State Lawal Awwall Kontagora, has said a friend hired him to join in the killing of the deceased because he was dating his girlfriend.
Adamu, while speaking with newsmen at the premises of the State Intelligence Bureau (SIB) in Kaduna, said a friend known as Aminu (surname withheld) came to his house to inform him that there was a boy dating his girlfriend and he wanted them to go and deal with him.
Adamu, who is a cook at a restaurant in the Nigeria Defence Academy (NDA) Kaduna, said he obliged his friend and they moved to the crime site.
“When I got there, he showed me a Peugeot 407 car parked on the street. He said the boy dating his girlfriend was inside the car with the girl.
“We moved to the car and Aminu asked the late Lawal to open the door, which he did. Aminu then instructed me to stab him and I stabbed him twice on the back, while Aminu shot him on the leg.
“Aminu later picked two handsets from the car and gave me one and we left the area quickly, with Aminu shooting sporadically into the air to scare people away,” he narrated.
Adamu, who said he resides at U/Gado Malali also disclosed that the gun used in the operation belonged to him, as he bought it from Aminu at N30, 000 and had made a part payment of N10,000.
“After the killing the corps member, I removed his sim card and replaced it with my own. It was when I was using the handset that the police tracked me down and I was arrested at Kaduna Central Market,” he added.
He further disclosed that his friend, Aminu, called him that the man they killed was the wrong person because he was not the one dating his girlfriend.
The police said the gun and machetes used in the killing the corps member was found in Adamu’s room at Nizom Road u/Gado.
They said investigation was ongoing into the matter.
