Kidnapped Ondo Anglican priest, family members regain freedom

The abducted Anglican Cleric, Rev. Canon Olowolagba, his wife, and two children kidnapped by some gunmen in Ise Akoko-Iboropa road in Akoko North-East Local Government area of Ondo State have regained freedom.

Though the details of the release of clergy, his wife and children were sketchy but a family member who confirmed the release said he cannot confirm if ransom was paid before they were set free.

The kidnappers had earlier demanded a ransom of N75m while the family and friends of the abducted victims negotiated to N15 million.

The Anglican priest who hailed from Ikaram-Akoko and his family members were abducted along the Ise Akoko-Iboropa road in Akoko North-East Local Government Area of Ondo State.

It was gathered that the Ẹgbẹ Akọ́mọlédè the state which the wife of the clergy is a member had asked its members to contribute money to raise N10m to pay as ransom to the kidnappers.

A Bishop of Akoko Anglican Diocese, Rev. Babajide Bada, who confirmed the kidnap of the four victims, said the incident happened last Sunday between 4pm and 5:30 pm.

He said “The man involved is Reverend Olowolagba. He was travelling from Ipesi, with his wife, Mrs Olowolagba, and their 16-year-old daughter, Goodness Olowolagba, a 100-level student of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba- Akoko (AAUA), who came for holiday at home, and a nine-year-old girl staying with them, identified as Idowu”.
