As airlines in the country continue to groan under the humongous foreign currencies they spend to carry out different maintenance checks on their aircraft outside the shores of the land, hope seems to be gradually coming as the minister of aviation and aerospace development, Festus Keyamo early in the week officiated the groundbreaking ceremony for the commencement of the construction of the proposed aircraft hangar facility, Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) at the Abuja airport.
The historic event was witnessed by the minister alongside the Managing director of XE Jet, Emmanuel Iza.
The landmark project has been described as a testament to the growth and development of indigenous aviation operators, supported by local financial institutions.
Speaking at the event marking the commencement of the construction of the MRO facilities, the Minister highlighted the government’s unwavering commitment to creating a thriving aviation ecosystem through the establishment of world-class MRO facilities and training centres.
According to Keyamo: “With this indigenous collaboration and support from local banks, we are witnessing the realization of a dream that will not only benefit Nigeria but also attract operators from across West Africa”.
The minister reiterated the government’s role in fostering an enabling environment and ensuring regulatory support to deliver a facility that meets global standards and a pivotal step towards positioning Nigeria as a regional Aviation hub and driving economic growth.
The event was graced by key aviation stakeholders, including the managing director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, the Acting Director-General, Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Captain Chris Najomo, and other stakeholders in the sector.
