Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, has urged the people of the South East region of the country to always key into the programmes and initiatives of the federal government.
According to a statement by Labour Ministry’s Head, Information and Public Relations, Patience Onuobia, the Minister made the call in Ebonyi State, Thursday, while inspecting and commissioning the federal government’s ultra modern Skills Upgrading and Vocational Training Centre (SUVTC), located in Ekwetekwe, as well as launching the Labour Employment and Empowerment Programme (LEEP) in that state.
Onyejeocha stated that the people’s lack of interest in government programmes would cause them to miss out on opportunities and benefits for both themselves and the region.
The minister said her mission included assessing the Skills Centre’s readiness to benefit from the LEEP
According to her, the LEEP, a flagship initiative of the Ministry, under the Renewed Hope Agenda, committed to job creation, skills building and sustainable empowerment for Nigerians, would boost the operations of the SUVTC.
Onyejeocha urged the people of the South East not to be sceptical but to have faith in the federal government by embracing its programmes, including the LEEP and other initiatives.

“Do not lose hope in federal government’s initiatives and interventions. I plead with you, leaders, parents, and guardians, to get your sons, daughters, wards and the youths of your communities to key into the renewed Hope Agenda of Mr President. Get them to enrol in empowerment programmes,” she emphasised.
The minister further stated that by creating opportunities for people to acquire skills, the government empowers them to contribute back to the system, thereby empowering many others.
Onyejeocha noted that different categories of people can benefit from the skills development and empowerment initiatives of government, which the LEEP initiative is also promoting.
She described the LEEP as an initiative for everyone – the youth, the elderly, men, women, the less privileged, people living with disabilities.
The minister appreciated the government of Ebonyi State for providing a conducive environment for the SUVTC and the LEEP to thrive.
Earlier, the Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Ogbonna Nwifiru, said the state has been running skill development programmes for the people, as well as empowering them with start-up capital, and funds to boost their businesses.
Represented by the Commissioner for Human Capital Development, Ann Aligwe, Nwifuru noted that the Skills Upgrading and Vocational Training Centre (SUVTC) would boost the efforts of the state government at enhancing the socio-economic well-being of the people of Ebonyi State.
