Head, Department of English, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Professor Niyi Osunbade, has tasked members of Kegite Clubs with living up to the task of promotion, preservation of Africa’s cultural heritage, and relationship management through their acts of socialisation and gyration.
He also underscored the significance of relationship management in cultural preservation, saying the Kegite Club was well-positioned to be a leader in promoting African heritage.
Osunbade gave this charge while delivering a lecture to mark the 27th anniversary of the institution.
Speaking, Osunbade noted that the Kegite Club employed unique verbal communication methods, utilising a blend of English and Indigenous languages, while practices like “tilkering” promote social harmony.
He emphasised the importance of networking, empathy, emotional intelligence, and active listening within the group’s framework.
The series of events marking the anniversary included the award presentation recognising outstanding contributions among members, a visit to the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Razaq Kalilu, and a variety of gyrations.
Chairman of the Planning Committee, Ola Obitusin, assured of the dedication of the Kegites Club to promoting African culture and values, which, he said, aligned seamlessly with the ethos of the Kegites Club.
