The Kebbi State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Wednesday went to polls to elect their new leaders at a triennial delegate conference in which Comrade Bella Sarki of the State Television service (KBTV) emerged winner, beating two other contestants to emerge as the Chairman of the Council for the next three years.
In his acceptance speech, Comrade Bella Dark stated that the welfare of his members remains the corner stone of his administration on training and capacity building, adding that continuous learning is vital for professional growth.
“We will facilitate opportunities for both local and international training programs, securing and transforming our Press Center will be prioritised.
We will establish dedicated Committees with other mandates and measurable deliverables to drive our collective aspirations,” he assured.
The new Chairman also assured that his administration will drive towards inclusivity and prudence and transparency, while Journalists Community and Professional integrity towards realising a world class NUJ Secretariat will be a hallmark of his administration.
Equally, “we will uphold the integrity of our union by addressing the challenge of quackery, preserving the honour of our profession.”
Comrade Sarki therefore called on Governor Nasiru Idris, who is also the grand patron of the Union to assist the union with a beginning NUJ State Secretariat, pointing out that, Kebbi State is a setback among other States of the Federation.
“We as a watch dog of the society also plead to the peoples’ Governor to help the Union with mobility in order to meet the taste of time for enhanced journalism as other States.”
