The Governing Council of Kaduna State University (KASU) has approved the establishment of 20 new development centres as part of efforts to enhance research, innovation, and community service.
This was contained in a statement issued by Hamza Musa Makarfi, Director of Corporate Services, KASU, and made available to newsmen on Friday.
The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Council, Dr. Husaini Adamu Dikko, disclosed this in Kaduna shortly after the Council’s quarterly meeting.
He stated that the new centres would address critical societal needs, starting with Kaduna State and extending across Nigeria.
According to him: “Some of the centres include the Centre for Renewable Energy Research, Centre for Peace and Conflict Resolution, Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Centre for Public Policy and Governance, Centre for Agricultural Development, and Centre for Digital Learning and ICT Advancement.”
Dr. Dikko noted that the Council also approved frameworks to strengthen staff development and research, as well as the introduction of new academic programmes endorsed by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
He explained that the Council further endorsed the promotion of staff members as an incentive to enhance productivity, loyalty, and selfless service to the progress of the university.
To ensure the smooth implementation of these decisions, the Council expanded the university’s management team to include the Director of Academic Planning, the Chief Security Officer, and another senior officer.
On international collaborations, Dr. Dikko revealed that the Council had approved at least ten agreements with reputable institutions abroad, aimed at boosting KASU’s global visibility and positioning it as one of Nigeria’s most sought-after partners in academic and research collaboration.
“These resolutions are part of the steady progress we are making to grow Kaduna State University into a premier research-driven institution, capable of delivering solutions to society while competing globally,” Dr. Dikko said.
