The Kano State Police Command has confirmed that disciplinary measures are being taken against five of its officers caught in viral video assisting a politician in sharing money to members of the public.
This was just as the command clarified that the case was not linked to the re-run and by-elections held in the state on August 16, as speculated in some quarters.
According to a statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, investigations showed the incident happened on July 10, 2025, at the Coronation Hall of the Kano State Government House, shortly after a ceremony.
The statement read: “The investigation revealed that the officers were deployed for security duties at the venue but engaged in acts described as unprofessional.”
“The Command assured residents that disciplinary actions are already underway to preserve the integrity of the police force.”
“The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to upholding discipline and ethics while maintaining public trust and confidence.”
SP Kiyawa then stated that “The police encouraged members of the public to reach out through its dedicated contact lines for further information or complaints”.
