The Kano State Private Health Institution Management Agency has successfully concluded the mop-up exercise for the registration of traditional medicine practitioners in the state.
The initiative aimed at enhancing practitioners’ knowledge and ensuring greater efficiency and safety within the state’s health sector.
Speaking at the Agency’s Conference Hall during the presentation of reports from local government enumerators, the Director-General, Professor Salisu Ahmed Ibrahim, underscored the importance of this initiative in improving the quality and regulation of traditional medicine practices across Kano State.
He added that the exercise was organised to address complaints from practitioners who were unable to register during the rainy season. Certificates were also presented to individuals who had previously registered with the Agency.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the agency, Binta Kabir Usman, a copy of which was made available to the press on Monday in Kano.
Professor Ibrahim announced the agency’s commitment to further supporting the sector by organising specialised training programs for traditional medicine practitioners.
He also emphasised the Agency’s dedication to fostering a well-regulated health system that integrates traditional medicine while upholding the highest standards of practice for the benefit of the public.
Professor Ibrahim took the opportunity to thank the Executive Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, for his magnanimity in approving and financing the exercise. He extended his gratitude to the Commissioner of Health, Dr Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, for his support, as well as to the Emirates Council through the Kano State Council of Elders for the Cooperation of Traditional Healers (KACCECOH), the elders of traditional healers in the state, and the National Association of Nigerian Traditional Medicine Practitioners (NANTMP) for their cooperation and contributions.
