Kano govt berates security blockage of Emir Sanusi’ s palace

The Kano State Government has expressed its profound dismay and deep concern over the reported blockade of the entrance to the Kofar Kudu Palace of the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, by heavily armed security operatives.

This incident occurred as Emir Sanusi urged residents to remain calm and avoid engaging in any actions capable of causing unrest.

Speaking on behalf of the state governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, the State Commissioner for Information, Baba Aliyu Dantiye, quoted Governor Yusuf as saying:
“This unfortunate development has raised tensions and caused distress among the residents of Kano and the surrounding communities.”

The statement reads:
“We strongly condemn any action that disrupts the peace or undermines the dignity of traditional institutions, which are central to the unity and cultural heritage of our people.”

The government reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace, stability, and the rule of law across the state. It is currently working to ascertain the reasons behind the incident and is engaging with relevant authorities to ensure a swift and peaceful resolution.

All residents are urged to remain calm, law-abiding, and continue with their normal daily activities. They are also advised to refrain from spreading unverified information that could fuel unnecessary panic and tension.

The Kano State Government remains resolute in its commitment to protecting the rights and welfare of its people and ensuring the continued stability of the state.

Meanwhile, Emir Sanusi has warned Kano residents against responding to the development with violence.

“I warn you against falling into the traps of Kano’s enemies who want to see Kano engulfed in chaos. They want to see killings, destruction of public property, and the maiming of innocent lives,” he said.

Speaking in response to the barricading of his palace during his Friday sermon at the Emirate’s Jummaat Mosque, the Emir emphasized that living peacefully with one another, even under provocation, is far better than resorting to violence.

He said, “Islam has instructed us to remain patient at all times, whether in difficult situations, at peace, or even when attacked. With patience, one achieves greatness, but a lack of patience creates uncertainty and difficulties, leading to losses for everyone.”

Emir Sanusi stressed that the current trials facing his throne are merely a journey toward success. He expressed confidence that with patience, he would emerge victorious. He added, “This is why we urge anyone who loves and supports us to shun violence at all times, no matter the circumstances.”

The mosque at Kofar Kudu was filled to capacity with worshippers who listened attentively to the Emir’s sermon.
