The District Head of Kawaji Saun, Alhaji Kabir Tijjani Hashim, Turakin Kano, has commended LG Electronics for providing a solar-powered borehole to the Kano community, adding that, “This project is a lifeline for the community, which had faced daily struggles just to access clean water.”
This was just as the District Head said, “This borehole will transform our lives. We no longer have to risk our health by relying on distant water sources.”
He made this known when speaking during the commissioning ceremony of a solar-powered borehole, built by LG Electronics, for the Kawaji Saunar MamaU community in Nassarawa Local Government, Kano State, Nigeria.
According to him, “Now, thanks to LG, we have a sustainable solution right at our doorstep.”
Earlier, Mr. Paul Mba, Head of Corporate Marketing at LG Electronics, expressed the company’s unwavering commitment to sustainability and community empowerment: “Water is a basic necessity. LG brings clean water to a community in need in Kano, Nigeria. In a bold move to tackle the pressing issue of clean water access, this initiative is poised to benefit hundreds of households, significantly reducing the incidence of waterborne diseases and improving overall community health. Local leaders and residents took the opportunity to voice their gratitude for LG’s impactful contribution.”
This initiative is part of LG’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, which is dedicated to fostering sustainable development and elevating the quality of life for underserved communities.
Residents in various rural areas of Kano have long faced the daunting challenge of obtaining potable water, often trekking for miles to unreliable sources.
He emphasised that the introduction of this solar-powered borehole is set to be a game-changer, offering a dependable and sustainable water supply right within their reach.
He, however, stated that what makes this borehole particularly remarkable is its innovative use of solar energy.
He added that, unlike traditional systems that depend on electricity or manual pumping, this solar-powered borehole harnesses the abundant sunlight in Kano to pump water from underground sources.
Mr Mba added that this not only ensures a reliable supply but also keeps operational costs low.
The Chairman of Nassarawa Local Government, Hon. Tusuf Imam, said that clean water is essential for their families, and they are deeply thankful for this support.
Hon. Imam praised the collaborative efforts that made this project possible, stating, “This is a shining example of how private sector involvement can lead to meaningful change. We encourage more organisations to invest in community development like LG has done today.”
The commissioning ceremony drew LG representatives, local leaders, and community members, all united in celebrating this vital project.
