Kano CoS denies palliative diversion allegations

The Kano State Chief of Staff, Alhaji Shehu Wada Sagagi, has described the accusations levelled against him by the State All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, regarding the alleged diversion of palliatives as baseless, misleading, and politically motivated.

In a statement signed on Wednesday and made available to the press in Kano, Sagagi stated that the tactics deployed by the opposition party in the state were a “desperate attempt to tarnish his image in the eyes of right-thinking Nigerians.”

He also described it as a calculated attempt to discredit the NNPP government’s efforts to support the people of Kano State.

Alhaji Sagagi asserted that the APC’s claims of palliative diversion and rebranding aimed at his personality are unfounded and lack concrete evidence, adding that such allegations are mere attempts to score cheap political points.

“Let it be on record that my office has never been involved in palliatives distribution, and no one has ever allocated the palliatives to me for onward distribution to state, local governments, or ward levels.

“The NNPP government has been transparent in its distribution of palliatives to the masses, with clear records of beneficiaries and distribution channels; therefore, there is no truth to the APC’s claims of diversion or rebranding,” Sagagi clarified.

He further stated that the APC’s accusations are simply politically motivated and are intended to distract the public from their own failures during their eight years in governance while shifting attention away from the NNPP administration’s successes in less than one year in office.

The signed statement read in part: “The APC’s claims of palliative diversion are also contradictory, as they have previously praised the NNPP government’s efforts in supporting the people of Kano State.”
