The Kano State Commissioner for the Ministry of Public Procurement Project Monitoring and Evaluation (MPPPM&E), Comrade Nura Ma’aji Sumaila, has said that no fewer than 626 projects across Kano State are currently under the direct supervision of his ministry.
He made this known during an inspection visit to the Kumbotso Five-Kilometer Road Project, noting that every one of these projects has been placed on the ministry’s priority list for consistent monitoring and evaluation.
According to him,” The Kumbotso project, initially designed as a five-kilometer road, has now been extended to cover 11 kilometers, underscoring the importance of the route to the community.”
Comrade Sumaila then highlighted that his ministry has conducted no fewer than five separate monitoring visits to Kumbotso, ensuring that earlier technical observations raised by engineers are adequately addressed.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Information Officer, MPPPM&E, Alhaji Sagiru Ado Abubakar, a copy made available to press in Kano
The Commissioner also commended the Ministry of Works for its cooperation and professionalism in handling road projects across the state.
“We are working hand in hand with the Ministry of Works, more than with any other entity in Kano. They are our strongest partners, and their support has been outstanding wherever we go,” Sumaila remarked.
“The monitoring tour also assessed progress in Garko Local Government Area, where two major projects – the upgrade of Garko Cottage Hospital to a General Hospital and the five-kilometer road project – are advancing satisfactorily,” he said
However, the Commissioner disclosed that the monitoring team could not reach contractors in Warawa and Albasu LGAs, despite prior notifications. In response, the ministry has scheduled a follow-up meeting with the contractors to interface directly and establish the status of the projects.
Available evidence indicates that the contractor handling the Warawa Five-Kilometer Road Project is currently on site and making commendable progress.
