Like a woman favoured by the gods, female jurist, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, is set to become the next Chief Justice of Nigeria.

If this is to be, the Supreme Court judge will become the second woman in the history of Nigeria to occupy the exalted seat after the first woman, Justice Mariam Aloma Mukhtar, who occupied the position from 2012 to 2014.

The 66-year-old woman after spending 11 years at the Supreme Court at the assumption of office as the Chief Justice of Nigeria will also head the National Judicial Council, the body that controls the appointment, promotion, and discipline of judges across Nigeria.

Born in 1958, Justice Kekere-Ekun obtained her LL.B in 1980 from the University of Lagos before she was called to the bar in 1980.

Her career success is atttributed to her morality, dedication, and hard work. The judge has devoted the best part of her life to the upliftment of justice in Nigeria.

Her elevation to the Supreme Court as the fifth female Justice of the Apex Court in 2013 was greeted by cheers and excitement from her friends and colleagues who testified to her principle and what she represents in her profession.
