The family members of the Secretary to the Bayelsa State Government, Hon. Konbowei Benson, can now heave a big relief as their matriarch, Betina Benson, abducted by unknown gunmen has been released.
A family source confirmed the latest development in Yenagoa the state capital, but refused to give details of how she regained her freedom.
Our source who pleaded that his name should not be mentioned because he was authorised to speak, however, did not say whether ransom was paid for her release.
Tribune Online gathered that a suspect, Weniowei of Lobia community, was arrested by the security agencies last week in connection with the abduction. His arrest may have led to Benson regaining her freedom.
The police are also yet to issue a statement in regard to the latest development.
It could be recalled that the 73- year-old mother of the Secretary to the Bayelsa State Government Betina Benson was kidnapped by men dressed in military camouflage and taken away from the old legislature quarters at Azikoro Road, one month ago.
Tribune Online learnt that this is the second time she had been abducted by gunmen. The first time was when her son was the Speaker of the state House of Assembly in 2013.
