Nigerian music executive and talent manager Jude Okoye has called for urgent reforms in Nigeria’s electoral law, urging the National Assembly to make a Bachelor’s degree a mandatory qualification for individuals seeking to run for political office.
According to the elder brother of music duo P-Square questioned why it was so difficult to reform the electoral act and set minimum academic standards for political aspirants. He argued that it made no sense for people without formal education to lead a population that includes millions of educated citizens.
“How hard is it to reform our electoral act, making at least Uni bachelor’s degree a benchmark for qualification to run for any office in Nigeria?” he wrote. “We can’t have the uneducated leading the educated. Electoral reform. NAS,” he added, tagging the National Assembly.
His comment comes amid growing public discourse around electoral standards, political leadership quality, and equity in representation across the country.
Also weighing in on political matters recently was Nollywood actor Yul Edochie, who took to his social media to advocate for the next Nigerian president to emerge from the South East. Edochie said such a move would be fair, equitable, and a step toward healing national divisions. “This is the truth. It’s how it should be,” he wrote, reinforcing the long-standing calls for inclusion and regional balance.
In a separate development, Jude Okoye recently revisited his long-standing rift with former label artists, including Peter Okoye (his younger brother), Cynthia Morgan, and others. He accused them of becoming greedy and wanting to “eat alone” during their time under his management.
According to Jude, those individuals celebrated their departure from his label and boasted about succeeding on their own.
However, now that some of them appear to have fallen on hard times, he said they are quick to point fingers instead of taking responsibility. “They never complained when things were good. Now that it’s gone south, they blame me,” he said in another post.
