The Jigawa State Government has been called upon for immediate implementation of the reviewed state’s Social Security assistance to 11,480 People Living with Disabilities (PWDs) and the elderly, as approved by Governor Malam Umar Namadi.
This was contained in a statement issued, signed, and made available by the chairman of the Social Protection Platform (JISOP), Comrade Shu’aibu Musa Kafingana, who expressed the need for the speedy implementation of reviewed social security support to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) and elderly people in the state.
According to the statement, the new social security assistance policy increases the amount and number of beneficiaries of PWDs from N7,000 to N10,000 and from 150 to 200 for each of the 27 local governments, while the new assistance introduced to elderly persons is for 20 people for each of the 287 political wards in the state.
“We are calling on the relevant ministries, agencies, and parastatals to work hard for the speedy implementation of this great effort approved by the governor, as it will address a lot of challenges, including poverty and insecurities, among many other challenges.”
The platform also commended Governor Malam Umar Namadi for the review and submission of the amended Social Security Law No. 06, 2007 to the Jigawa State House of Assembly.
The JISOP chairman maintained that it is a commendable effort by the government and the governor; “it is a laudable achievement for the present administration and the entire people of the state.”
The platform also commended the governor for the increase in PWDs’ social security allowances from N7,000 to N10,000 per person every month.
He noted that during the state council meeting, the Social Protection Scheme for elderly people was approved, and it was agreed to register 20 elderly people per ward, making the total number of beneficiaries 5,740 across 287 political wards in the state, with each person benefiting from N10,000 monthly.
