The Speaker, Jigawa State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, narrowly escaped death in a ghastly motor accident between Dutse, Gumel to Maigatari local government.
Report from the state indicated that the Jigawa State legislature’s leader’s convoy had an accident on his way to attend a political rally organised by the state government, known as “Gwamnati da Jumaa”(Jigawa Govt engagement Forum).
An eyewitness told Online Tribune in the state that the escort car of the speaker’s convoy, a back-open Toyota Hilux van carrying the police escorts, lost control and somersaulted, and threw away the police officer.
According to the eyewitness, “other cars, including the speaker’s occupied car’s drivers, maneuvered and stopped few meters of the accident spot”.
The eyewitness who spoke to Online Tribune on condition of anonymity said, “I’m not in the position to talk to media. But I can confirm to you that it is only the escort car containing the police that was involved”.
The eyewitness added, “The police were taken to Gumel general hospital unconscious, but no loss of life. Only that the car was seriously damaged.”
When contacted through his mobile telephones, the personal assistant to the speaker, Mr Aqeel Akilu, confirmed the accident and said all the police were alive.
The personal assistant to the speaker said, “There is no loss of lives. All the police involved in the accident are now feeling better as they were discharged from hospital.”
Findings by Online Tribune in the state revealed that the speaker mostly used to enter the governor’s car in most of the police rallies within the state.
