Former Jigawa State Governor Alhaji Sule Lamido has expressed concern over the high fees set for candidates in the upcoming local government elections in Jigawa State.
In a statement posted on his Facebook account, the People Democratic Party (PDP) national leader criticized the requirement of five million Naira for chairmanship and two million Naira for councilorship nomination forms.
Lamido pointed out that the APC-controlled government of Jigawa State has won all chairmanship seats in the 27 local governments and all 287 councilorship seats in the local government elections yet to be conducted.
He remarked, “While other states are engaged in protests over hunger and poverty, congratulations to Jigawa for being the most prosperous state in Nigeria.”
When contacted, Alhaji Auwalu Harbor, Chairman of the Jigawa State Independent Electoral Commission (JISEC), stated he could not comment at the moment as he was attending to family matters due to the recent death of his brother.
He added that he might be available to respond to inquiries the following day.
