The Jigawa State Hisbah Board has destroyed alcoholic beverages worth N5.8 million following a series of raids in Kazaure Local Government Area.
Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Dutse, Hisbah Commander Malam Ibrahim Dahiru confirmed that 400 cartons of alcohol were seized and burnt as part of an intensified crackdown on prohibited substances.
Dahiru revealed that the operation was led by Kazaure Chairman, Alhaji Mansur Dabuwa, and targeted bars and spots where alcohol was being sold and consumed in defiance of state laws.
The commander stated that the consumption of alcohol is strictly forbidden across Jigawa, stressing that Hisbah will not relent in its efforts to enforce moral standards and uphold religious principles.
He called on community members to cooperate with Hisbah by reporting immoral activities, assuring that such information would aid the board in fulfilling its mandate.
Dahiru said there is a need for continued support of the public to tackle social vices effectively.
He also cautioned residents against indulging in behaviours deemed harmful to society, reaffirming the board’s commitment to promoting a morally upright environment.
