The opposition Peoples Democratic Party on Saturday presented its governorship flag to Alhaji Mustapha Sule Lamido as the party’s candidate for the 2027 governorship election in Jigawa State.
The presentation followed Lamido’s affirmation as the party’s consensus candidate during the PDP governorship primary election held at Mtown Hotel in Dutse, the state capital.
The chairman of the electoral committee sent by the party’s national headquarters, Barrister Isah Ahmed, announced the result, declaring that Lamido emerged unopposed after being adopted by party stakeholders as the consensus candidate.

Ahmed said the candidate was subsequently affirmed through a voice vote by delegates and party members at the venue before he was officially presented with the party’s flag.
In his acceptance speech, Lamido called on party members to remain united, loyal and committed ahead of the 2027 general election, stressing that only collective sacrifice and discipline could guarantee victory for the PDP.
He pledged to rescue the state from what he described as hardship, poor governance and insensitive leadership if elected governor in 2027.
According to him, his ambition is driven not by personal interest but by a determination to rebuild and reposition Jigawa State for sustainable growth and development.
Lamido expressed gratitude to party leaders, elders and supporters for the confidence reposed in him, assuring them that he would remain committed to the ideals and programmes earlier outlined during the 2023 governorship campaign.
“This moment is not new to me. In 2023, you entrusted me with this same responsibility, and together we ran a campaign rooted in unity, hope, reform and the promise of a better Jigawa State,” he said.
The PDP governorship candidate recalled that although the party lost the 2023 governorship election, it succeeded in winning the trust and confidence of many residents across the state.
He lamented the challenges confronting the state, including declining standards in education, weak healthcare delivery, economic hardship and what he described as governance failures.
“We are not here to lament; we are here to fix it. We are here to restore competence in governance, dignity in public service and hope in the lives of our people,” he declared.
Lamido promised to implement programmes aimed at boosting economic growth, youth empowerment, education, healthcare delivery, social development and institutional reforms.
He also commended the PDP leadership at both the national and state levels for conducting what he described as peaceful and transparent primary elections.
The PDP flag bearer further appealed to the people of Jigawa State to support his aspiration, assuring them of accountable leadership, prudent management of public resources and people-oriented governance if elected in 2027.
