Jigawa State Government has launched the sales of over N2 billion worth of fertiliser for the 2025 rainy season farming at an over 80% subsidy to farmers in the state.
Governor Umar Namadi, represented by his Chief of Staff, Senator Mustapha Makama, flagged off the sales at the Jigawa State Agricultural Supply Company (JASCO).
The governor said the government procured enough commodities to make them accessible and affordable to farmers in the state.

He noted that the state government has approved the setting up of distribution committees at the state, local government, and ward levels to ensure timely and judicious distribution of the fertiliser to real farmers.
“The state government has approved the setting up of distribution committee at the state, local government, and ward level to ensure timely and just distribution and reach the real farmers through their respective polling units across the 27 local government areas.
“As the first batch, a total of 54 trucks had been dispatched to 27 local government areas. Two far each local government as a start. The local government council chairman is to chair the local government distribution committee, and all councillors would chair their respective ward committees”.
The governor noted that each of the 50kg of NPK 20-10-10 is valued at the rate of N28,800 per bag.
“5 bags is the maximum number of bags to be sold to any small-scale farmers, while 20 bags are for medium-scale farmers.”
Senator Mustapha Makama warned the committee members and the general public against any attempts at division, misconduct, and any act of malpractice in the process of distributing and sealing the fertiliser.
In his part, the Managing Director of the Jigawa State Agricultural Supply Company (JASCO), Alhaji Rabi’u Khalid, said the company has a stock of 80 trucks of the NPK 20-10-10, of which 54 trailers had been dispatched to the 27 local government areas as a start.
According to him, “We have made available two trucks to each local government to start with. Immediately it finishes, we will supply more according to the needs”.
Alhaji Rabi’u Khalid explained that Jigawa state is leading in terms of agricultural development and agricultural support in line with Mal Umar Namadi’s in achieving the 12-point agenda.
“As usual in his determination for the development of agriculture His Excellency Governor has subsidised the commodity to N28,800 far bag, while the market prices is N45,000 to N60,000 depending on the brand”.
He said the state government expanded over two billion Naira for the procurement and transportation of the fertiliser to all its stores across the state for easy access by farmers.
