Iwoye-Ketu will witness tremendous growth under my reign — Ooye-elect

The Ooye of Iwoye-Ketu elect, Prince Isaac Adegbenro Oyero, has assured the indigenes and residents of Iwoye-Ketu in Imeko Afon Local Government Area of Ogun State of unprecedented development during his reign.

Oyero, who was recently elected by the kingmakers in the historical and ancient town that has produced three generalissimos (Aare Ona Kakanfo) of Yorubaland, also promised to facilitate government presence in the town.

He identified access to good roads, insecurity caused by herders/farmers clashes, lack of drinkable water, and other social amenities as some of the challenges confronting the town, which borders the Republic of Benin.

The new Oba-elect said the town, predominantly an agrarian society, is one of the food baskets of the state. He reiterated his readiness to harness all its potentials to boost its economic status in particular and the state in general.

He said, “Iwoye-Ketu is a unique town on its own. It is a historical town, having produced the first three Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland. Aside from that, my town is the closest neighbour to the Republic of Benin.

“We are very accommodating people. We have settlers from different parts of the country, and we have been enjoying relative peace. Although there are security challenges as a result of herders/farmers issues, which have led to loss of lives and destruction of farmlands in the past, I want to assure my subjects that under my watch and with the cooperation of all residents, this ugly issue will become a thing of the past forever.

“We are all Nigerians, irrespective of our ethnic groups and tribes. We must be our brothers’ keepers at all times. Like some lines in our national anthem, ‘though tribe and tongue may differ, in brotherhood we stand,’ that is my main focus. I will ensure that peace reigns amongst us.”

He, however, extended a hand of fellowship to other contenders for the stool of Ooye of Iwoye-Ketu, calling on sons, daughters, and other well-meaning individuals to join hands with him in building the ancient town for the benefit of its occupants.

The Oba-elect also encouraged individuals and companies interested in large-scale farming to come to the town, stating that it is blessed with arable land suitable for growing cashew, cotton, cassava, yams, vegetables, and more.
