THE popular Ibadan Tennis Club (ITC) is set to celebrate her 100 years of existence.
Founded in 1925, the president of the social club told Saturday Tribune that members are already putting things in place for an elaborate celebration middle of this year.
Dr Oladipupo Sule of Nonsuch Medicare Ltd, the president, said a press conference announcing activities to mark the centenary celebrations will take place soon, while he also said that the club will be present at the book launch of Mr Tade Makinde on February 16 at the Trenchard Hall, University of Ibadan, Oyo State.
“It is on record that the author’s late father worked with our club on April 22, 1977, to host the crowning of Sunny Ade as King of Music. The club remembers that honour till date. That is why anything that has to do with the late Olu Makinde, King Sunny Ade or Sketch Newspaper always excite us.
“We will hold the conference immediately after the book launch, or before it, depending on how other club executive members want us to do this.
“Just like that, we have two celebrations on our hands; a book launch in honour of a friendly journalist, and the 100th anniversary of our club. I am so excited to be a part of both landmark events,” he said.
All activities marking the celebrations will take place at the club, except for those agreed to by the club executive members.
