Determined to ensure development in the oil producing communities, the Imo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (ISOPADEC) has executed 13 projects within one year, while 38 others are nearing completion.
The Managing Director of ISOPADEC, Chief Charles Orientation, disclosed this to Tribune Online on Friday, in his office in Owerri.
The MD said that the projects were scattered in the oil bearing communities of Ohaji/Egbema, Oguta and Oru East Local Government Areas of Imo State.
He said that the laudable achievements of the commission since appointment were in line with the charge by the Governor to fast tract both human and infrastructural development in oil bearing communities in the state.
Orientation added that among the projects completed in Ohaji/Egbems Local Government Areas included the construction and installation of a branded solar street lights at Etekwuru/Umudike, construction and installation of solar powered central borehole in Ikwerede, Awara, Iyioka, Ugbada, construction and installation of Health Centre with basic funiture at Umudike among others.
The MD said that a good number of projects had been completed at Oguta LGA which included the construction of Nigerian Police Station, Akiri Oguta, construction of community primary school building at Akiri, Construction of Health Centre at Akiri and construction of central water borehole with power generating set at Akiri community.
According to him, the Commission had recently awarded some projects at Oru East LGA which included tje construction of 20 Bed General Hospital with mordern facilities in Omumua, rehabilitation of general hospital at Awo- Omamma and rehabilitation of Umuhu Omuma health centre
Chief Orie hinted about some ongoing projects in both Ohaji/Egbema and Oguta LGAs respectively, which included construction of six class room block at Community Primary School Umuapu Ohaji, construction of six class room block at St. Partrick’s School Ihie.
Other ongoing projects in Oguta LGA are the construction of 20 bed General Hospital at Oguta town, construction of 6 class rooms block at Izombe community school and construction of 6 classrooms block at Development Primary School, Obajuju Akabor in Oguta LGA.
The MD disclosed that the commission had concluded every plans for the reconstruction work on Ilile/Oburugo/ Umuapu road immediately the rainy season stopped.
He said already the road had been gazetted and contract had been awarded while assuring that work would immediately commence this period of dry season.
According to him, the road when completed, would give the people of the area a new lease of life, while it would go a long way in reconnecting the communities with outside world.
