The International Society of Diplomats (ISD) has congratulated the former Bauchi State Governor, Dr. Isa Yuguda, on his recent appointment by President Bola Tinubu as the Chairman of the Governing Council of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).
ISD, in a statement by its media consultant, Mr Babangida Agboti, said the appointment is a testament to Dr Yuguda’s long-standing contributions to national development, his commitment to education, and his service to the nation.
During a courtesy visit to the former Governor, ISD delegates conferred Dr. Yuguda as the Chairman of ISD Nigeria’s National Advisory Council, a key role that aligns with ISD’s strategic vision of promoting sustainable development, peace, and sustainable development.
The delegation was led by Professor Edet Ekpenyong, Country Director of ISD Nigeria, accompanied by other members of ISD Nigeria, which include Dr Alexander Faranpojo, Ms Hanadi Marwan, Mr Wilson Babangida Agboti, and Ms Miriam A. Michael.
“Dr. Isa Yuguda’s dual appointment reflects his outstanding leadership qualities and deep commitment to fostering peace, progress, and sustainable development.
“As Chairman of ISD Nigeria’s National Advisory Council, Dr Yuguda will play an integral role in driving ISD’s core mission, which focuses on promoting global peace and fostering and facilitating sustainable development initiatives,” the statement said.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Edet Ekpenyong emphasised the importance of this collaboration, stating, “Dr. Yuguda’s leadership and experience will significantly enhance our collective efforts to build bridges for sustainable peace and promote international cooperation that benefit Nigeria and the global community.
“His dedication to education and national service is aligned with ISD’s core values, and we are confident that under his guidance, both NOUN and ISD Nigeria will achieve greater heights.”
Dr. Isa Yuguda, in his response, expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting ISD’s vision.
He reiterated that his leadership at NOUN and ISD will be geared towards fostering a culture of peace, progress, and innovation in line with the current administration of President Bola Tinubu, which is focused on sustainable development and nation-building.
“As part of ISD’s continuing engagement, this collaboration marks a significant step towards strengthening Nigeria’s diplomatic relations and advancing global partnerships that align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As ISD remains committed to working with national and international stakeholders to implement transformative initiatives that promote peace, justice, and sustainable economic growth,” the statement added.
