Recently, a popular female pastor said that men do not like women with natural hair. The submission of the pastor generated a lot of reactions on social media. Many people did not agree with the pastor. Others did. Today, we want to get our readers’ views on this matter. Joel Okoeguale assisted in sourcing responses to this issue. Below are the responses of some of our contributors:

One of the things that got my husband attracted to me was my smooth, long natural hair, plus other values he saw in me. This female pastor was trying to encourage some over-spirited ladies to learn how to package themselves, aside from their religious lives. She encouraged ladies to make time to date, do make-up, and look good. Therefore, she did not really say anything bad. What worked for me may not work for another. At the end of the day, ladies should learn to add value to themselves, not just their looks.

It is not true. I have been keeping natural hair for a while and three men have walked up to me and said they like my natural hair. When I cut my hair, many people were angry with me. Some said they decided to keep their natural hair because they saw mine and it was beautiful.

The truth is in 1st Timothy 2 vs 9 – 10. The Bible says we should dress and adorn moderately. So, men would love a woman who does everything moderately. If a woman plaits her hair naturally and it is beautiful to her man, who is the pastor to say men do not like women with natural hair? She should speak for herself alone.

I do not know the difference. I tell my wife that whatever she does looks beautiful on her. Sometimes, she even gets mad at me for not knowing the hairstyle on her. I just want to see my woman happy. I am fine with anyone she chooses. I am in love with my wife, not her hair.

It is a Yes and a No answer. Some men do not like women with natural hair. Most of them prefer their women to look good in wigs and expensive Brazilian hair. Other men prefer women with natural hair. Most men encourage their women to plait their natural hair because nothing could be compared with it.

It is frustrating that we still have to deal with these stereotypes. Everyone has their preferences. However, that does not mean you should conform to someone else’s idea of beauty. Own your natural hair, because confidence is the most attractive quality anyone could have. The right people would appreciate you for being true to yourself, curls and all.

This is just sad. It is obvious this woman is just chasing clout. Since when did natural hair become a criterion for marriage? Last I checked, marriage is the union of two people and if any man takes this to heart, then they are simply not ready. Natural hair is the most widely grown kind of hair nowadays. So, the woman in question should be cautious as her words could make their way into some people’s hearts.

Most men love natural hair. Running your fingers through a woman’s hair is very romantic. You cannot do that with a wig or tracks.

Individuals have choices. My husband prefers that I lock my hair than any other style. And I do not think men should be the ones to decide the kind of hair a woman is wearing. It should be her choice or the agreement between both of them.

That is a lie. At least I could speak for myself. I like women with natural hair. In fact, I encourage my woman to make her hair as much as she could. I sometimes accompany her to her hairdresser’s place. That is not to say I do not like when she uses attachments and wigs. I love variety.

It depends on how the woman makes her hair. If she does it neatly and beautifully, it could still be classy and attract men. However, if it does not look well, it would be a bad look for her and not attract anyone. I think this was what the female pastor was trying to say. She did not mean it in a way that would discredit women from keeping their natural hair. Natural hair, when properly done, could be rocked. This does not invalidate wigs and artificial hair that some women make. They also beautiful. They could both co-exist and attract men.

It is unfortunate that some people still hold outdated views. You know what is awesome? Rocking your natural hair with confidence. Embracing your authentic self is the key, and those who appreciate you for who you are would far outweigh anyone with a narrow mindset. So, keep shining with your natural beauty.

There is no formula. Do what works for you. One thing is certain − everyone on earth cannot see, understand and appreciate things the same way because we are unique in our individual ways. That is why I always say: When you do not value or understand something, do not judge or condemn those who do. This is because the one you think is the best could be an offense to another. Be yourself and respect other people’s opinions and beliefs.

It all relates to the female pastor’s experiences and the kind of men she meets. Natural hair that is properly cared for is beautiful and men appreciate it. I am into this natural hair treatment and tutor women on how to care for theirs too. Keeping natural hair could be expensive and stressful, especially for one who wants to get the desired beauty in it. I love my hair natural and I appreciate a lot of women who keep beautiful natural hair because I know what it takes to do so.

Real men love natural hair. I have billionaire brothers who tell me that they love braids and natural hair. Men with class love natural hair and African braids.

One thing that has gotten people, both men and women, attracted to me is my natural hair. I cannot count the number of times I hear “I love your hair” in a day. I barely wear wigs or use attachments. My natural hair is more beautiful. It is my heritage, my tradition, and my culture.

Women wear wigs for women, not men. Men do not even know the difference between double-drawn and human hair, and all the names they call those things. I do makeup anytime I want to impress fellow women, not men.

I was happy when my wife cut her hair because I have been looking for a means to tell her I like low cut with jerry curls. That day, she was surprised at the gifts I gave her. Natural or artificial, just know what you look. Men would go for what they feel is the best for them, natural or artificial.
