The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate and prosecute the impeached Speaker of the House, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa if found wanting.
Spokesman of the party, Hakeem Amode disclosed that it is not enough for the lawmakers to allege and not push further to establish the truth in the allegations.
He urged the members of the Lagos State House of Assembly to petition the EFCC and furnish the anti-graft agency with the needed facts and figures for thorough investigation.
Speaking to Tribune Online, Amode said, “The State Assembly is constituted by law and they have the right to right to choose who leads them.
“So it is within their right to impeach and to re-elect another lawmaker to lead them. This is their constitutional right. There is standing rule guiding the Lagos State House of Assembly.
“The fact that they have alleged that a fraud has been committed by the former Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa that is what is of concerned to every Lagosian.
“Our stand is that the lawmakers should petition the EFCC to examine and prosecute Obasa if he is found wanting.
“They should either petition the police or the EFCC. The good thing is that they have asked him to step aside. He should be prosecuted.
“The onus is on them to send necessary documents to the anti-graft agencies. The business of the people and of the state must not suffer because of internal wrangling or issues of APC.
“We don’t want to join issues with anybody. What is of concern to us is a state Assembly that is efficient and stable and does the work of the people.

“Whatever is going on within them should not affect the running of the State Assembly. You know the local government election is around the corner.
“Lagosians are watching. They are well educated on the issue at hand. They must not suffer. That is our concern.”
The main opposition party spokesperson congratulate the newly elected first female speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Lasbat Mojisola Meranda while urging her to prioritise the people of Lagos state over APC’s internal squabble.
He said, “We congratulate her because this has never happened in the history of the State. To the womenfolk, this is a new day for them.
“For us, having congratulated her, we also believe that as a woman, she should understands the needs of Lagosians and focus on what is important to the people of Lagos state.
“This is more important than anything that goes on within the Lagos APC. This has been happening for the two last speakers.
“The last speaker of the House, Rt. Hon Adeyemi Kuforiji also went through the same thing. If you pay attention to what happened, impeachment or allegations always come up whenever election is approaching.
“Same thing happened during the tenure of Hon. Kuforiji who was alleged to have committed a fraud. If you could remember he was sent to the EFCC.
“It was done to him because of his governorship ambition at the time. In APC, each time a speaker what to contest an election there is always an issue. I cannot speak for Obasa but I am only speaking to the fact that’s on ground.
“This is an issue within the APC which they need to resolve. They should resolve their issues and not allow it to affect the running of the state Assembly so that Lagosians will not suffer.”
