Wife of the chairman, Iseyin Local Government Area of Oyo State, Mrs Mujidat Shade Abilawon, has charged parents to make their children’s education a priority.
Speaking at a New Year party she organised for children at the local government secretariat, Mrs Abilawon said there is a need for parents to take interest in the wellbeing of their children, adding that parents should not allow their search for daily bread take away their responsibilities towards their children.
She further encouraged them to monitor their wards movements so as not to join bad groups and also ensure they abstain from drug abuse.
“As women, we play vital roles in the upbringing of our wards. I am charging you to be watchful of their movements,” Mrs Abilawon said.
She also advised children not to join groups that can lure them into various social vices.
“I will encourage you to face your studies and do your home works at the right time and listen to your teachers attentively. You must cross-check and read over what you have been taught in school when you get home,” she added.
