As contained in a statement by Ismaila Uba Misilli, Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Governor, Inuwa Yahaya also said that the occasion is not just a day to celebrate women but to also reflect on the challenges they face and implement workable solutions towards addressing them and removing barriers that impede their success.
He commended the theme of this year’s celebration, #EachForEqual, which seeks to draw attention to the idea that gender inequality is not only a women’s issue but economic and community one.
He, however, said that in Gombe State, women hold key cabinet positions which is one of the steps towards demonstrating that indeed, his administration subscribes to gender mainstreaming and providing ease of access to resources and opportunities, including economic participation and decision-making regardless of gender.
The governor further described women as wonderful partners in the onerous task of nation-building, encouraging them to continue to remain positive and be focused as well as use their talents and motherly disposition in ensuring proper upbringing of their wards and contributing to societal growth and development.
