Permanent Secretary reaffirms commitment to core mandate of civil service reforms

The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, has tasked the staff and top echelon of the Ministry with a renewed sense of duty and commitment to the core mandate of Federal Civil Service reforms aimed at improving service delivery to the citizenry.

Ajani made the call on Thursday during the official launch of the Performance Management System and the signing of performance contracts with directors of the Ministry.

According to her, the implementation of the Performance Management System (PMS) Pillars of the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan (FCSSIP25) is vital for improved service delivery, increased efficiency, and productivity in the national economy.

“As you are aware, our targets are drawn from the National Development Plan and the Renewed Hope Agenda of the current administration.

“Today’s gathering is more than just a contract signing ceremony; it is a covenant of accountability and a promise to join forces with Mr President to deliver his aspirations to Nigerians, as was signed by the Honourable Minister in the Ministerial Deliverables/Bond and other core mandates of the Ministry.

“Therefore, this contract serves as a departmental roadmap that will help the Ministry track its performance and timely escalate our reports to the Central Delivery Coordinating Unit (CDCU), the Head of Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF) Office, and the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning Offices, among others, thereby contributing our quota to the Economic Development of our Nation,” she stated.

The Permanent Secretary stressed the imperative of accountability in service delivery, informing the directors and officers overseeing departments present that their signature stands as a symbol of their dedication and a pledge to hold their individual constituency accountable for delivering on their departmental functions and responsibilities.

She reminded the directors that the performance contract being signed was not exhaustive, urging them to cascade the departmental deliverables and functions to their officers, deputy directors, assistant directors, and chiefs/sectional heads (as applicable).

Ajani assured them that the trained PMS Champions and resource persons would be available to help drive the cascading process.

She thanked the Minister, Dr. Olunbunmi Tunji-Ojo, for his leadership, drive, and inspiration in ensuring that the Ministry excels in not just achieving but surpassing its targets in the signed Presidential Bond.

“Let me remind us that the Office of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCF) has directed all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to dedicate Thursdays of every week as Performance Management System Day (PMS Day),” she said.

Ajani emphasised the need to collectively work to achieve the mandate of the Ministry, build a reformed Federal Civil Service, and strengthen the Ministry, which will invariably impact the ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ of the current administration.
