Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has renewed his performance bond with all paramilitary chiefs and heads of agencies under his supervision in a bid to advance the Federal Government’s drive for improved service delivery to Nigerians.
He also charged the agencies under his watch to redouble their efforts towards achieving a 100 per cent performance rating, building on the impressive 85 per cent score recorded in the Q1 2025 Performance Review.
Recall that during the 2025 Ministerial Retreat, where the performance results of various ministries were released, Hajiya Hadiza Bala Usman, Special Adviser to the President on Policy and Coordination and Head of the Central Results Delivery Coordination Unit (CRDCU), commended the Ministry under the leadership of Dr. Tunji-Ojo for driving accountability, efficiency, and citizen-focused service delivery.
Speaking on Saturday at the close of a three-day sectoral review and performance contract signing retreat in Abuja, the Minister commended the efforts of the various agencies in improving service delivery. He, however, stressed that Nigerians will not accept excuses for poor service delivery; therefore, every agency and department head must meet set targets.
The paramilitary agencies under the Ministry of Interior are: the Federal Fire Service (FFS), the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), and the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).
Tunji-Ojo, while acknowledging the progress made through the implementation of various reforms, noted that the Ministry was previously scored 65 per cent in the last one year, expressing delight that the most recent review placed it at 85 per cent.
He charged the agencies to deliver on their promises as outlined in the performance contracts signed by each agency and to drive meaningful change within their respective institutions.
“When we did the last retreat, we were at 62%. A year later, the Presidential Central Coordinating Unit’s review showed we had moved from 62% to 85%. Who says we cannot achieve 100? We are agents of perfection; that’s who we are in the Ministry of Interior. Let’s strive for perfection. Let’s go for 100 and deliver. Let Nigerians feel our impact. Let’s continue to make people smile,” Tunji-Ojo stated.
Meanwhile, the Minister urged the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, to sustain ongoing reforms in the Service, stressing that correctional centres must not be places of condemnation but centres of transformation and rehabilitation for inmates.
The Controller-General of the Federal Fire Service (FFS), Olumode Adeyemi, said that although he assumed office only a few weeks ago, the retreat had been an eye-opener for the Service. He reaffirmed the Fire Service’s commitment to making a positive impact through disaster prevention, prompt rescue operations, and job creation.
On his part, the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Abubakar Audi, noted that a similar performance contract was signed with the Minister last year. He stated that the NSCDC performed well, as confirmed by the Minister during his remarks. However, he acknowledged that there was still room for improvement and pledged that the Corps would roll out strategies to surpass last year’s performance.
He further emphasised that the NSCDC’s mandate is critical to the sustainable development of the country, as it is the lead agency responsible for protecting national critical assets.
