The Military High Command on Friday stated that in the renewed fight against insurgency activities, its troops have, within one week, neutralised key commanders, arrested several fighters, rescued over 70 kidnapped victims, and recovered assorted weapons in various operations against criminal elements across the country.

This was contained in a statement made available to defence correspondents in Abuja by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Markus Kanye, in the weekly report on ongoing military operations against insurgency activities in the country.

The troops also recovered a cache of weapons, logistics items, vehicles, motorcycles, and the sum of ₦191,700, while several improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were safely detonated.

The statement explained that the gallant troops, in collaboration with other security agencies and hybrid forces, made significant gains in the fight against terrorism, insurgency, banditry, and other criminal activities during the week under review.

According to it, “Through coordinated air and ground operations, we have successfully neutralised key threats, rescued kidnapped victims, recovered arms and ammunition, and destroyed criminal hideouts, among other achievements during the week in focus.

“These achievements reflect the unwavering resolve of the Nigerian Armed Forces to defend the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and unity of our nation against all threats.

“These operations are yielding tangible results, restoring peace and security to affected communities, and reaffirming our commitment to securing every inch of Nigerian territory.

“The successes we are sharing today are not only a testament to the professionalism and bravery of our personnel, but also to the growing cooperation of local communities and the Nigerian people.

“The intensity of our operations has also afforded farmers the opportunity to carry out their activities unhindered. This effort will be sustained throughout the farming season and beyond.”

The statement assured that the gallant troops, in conjunction with other security agencies as well as hybrid forces, would continue to work together in line with global best practices to ensure that peace and security are restored to all troubled parts of the country.
