The House of Representatives on Tuesday urged the Federal Government to urgently bolster security in Zamfara State following the unabated attacks on 40 communities by armed bandits.

In the same vein, the House tasked all the security and law enforcement agencies to collaborate with the Zamfara State Government to curb the rising wave of insecurity across the State.

The resolution was passed sequel to the adoption of a motion sponsored by Hon. Hassan Shinkafi, member representing Shinkafi/Zurmi Federal Constituency, during Tuesday’s plenary session.

Hon. Shinkafi, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who expressed deep concern over the worsening security situation in Shinkafi and Zurmi Local Government Areas, expressed displeasure over escalating violence, which has resulted in widespread killings, maiming, and kidnappings.

The lawmaker who commended Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State for taking pragmatic steps to secure the state, including the establishment of a Security Trust Fund, Community Protection Guards, intelligence-sharing mechanisms, and logistical support for security agencies, however frowned at the unabated insecurity rocking State.

According to him, despite these efforts, insecurity persists, forcing residents to flee and leaving over 40 villages deserted, adding that the situation has inflicted untold hardship on the people, preventing access to farmlands, markets and schools.

Shinkafi also lamented the withdrawal of military troops after just two weeks of deployment, which allowed bandits to regroup and resume attacks.

Unhappy over the development, the lawmakers unanimously called on Federal Government to direct the military to establish permanent, well-equipped security bases in Magarya, Kurya, Kware, Dutsi, Mashema, Gurbin Bore, Boko, and Dole communities within Shinkafi and Zurmi LGAs.

In the bid to alleviate the suffering of the victims, the House mandated Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction to provide relief materials to victims affected by the violence in the constituency.
