Insecurity: Ekiti elders council convokes security summit

Worried by the growing insecurity in the state and beyond, the Ekiti State Council of Elders has announced it would be organising a security conference where stakeholders would discuss and proffer workable solutions towards ending the precarious situation in the state.

The council in a statement its secretary, Mr Niyi Ajibulu, on Tuesday, in Ado-Ekiti said the conference which will have the state governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi as a special guest would afford traditional rulers, religious leaders, artisans, security agencies and other residents the opportunity to bring to the table practical and local means of securing the state.

He explained that the conference slated for Thursday with the theme, ‘Securing Ekiti State’ will be chaired by the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Ekiti state, Revd Felix Ajakaye.

The statement reads, “With the growing spate of killings, destruction of farmlands, kidnappings and all forms of anti-social activities that are creating fear and hampering normal socio-economic functioning of the populace, Ekiti Council of Elders in line with the Yoruba adage, “Agba kii wa loja kori Omo tuntun wo”, considered it imperative that all critical stakeholders come together to consider ways of complementing the existing state and non-state efforts of reducing insecurity in Ekiti.

“ Hence, the Council is sponsoring a statewide conference that will examine practical processes and explore initiatives and local potentials that may strengthen the measures on the ground. Equally, to be considered are means of vigilance and channels of securing intervention under tense circumstances.”

FULL STORY: Some Nigerian students on May 27, 2021, got an SMS on their mobile phones from TETFund2021, informing them of their eligibility for the ongoing TETFund 20,000 grant.
