Chrysalis Care Initiative, a non-governmental organisation, has donated mini-libraries to three orphanages as part of its annual “Moment to Remember 2.0” programme, which brought children from different care homes together for a day of learning, play and celebration.
The event, held at Bab Es Salam Orphanage Home in Lagos, featured children from Sisters in Deen Orphanage (Baytu Sakeenah), Halal Children’s Home and the host home.
The highlight of the event was the unveiling of mini-libraries for each participating home in partnership with the Read for Growth Initiative, a gesture aimed at nurturing a lifelong love for reading among the children.
The programme also featured an interactive session with Chess in Slums Africa, founded by Tunde Onakoya, where the children were introduced to the chess game as a tool for grit, critical thinking and confidence-building.
Other activities included creative art, calligraphy, poetry, storytelling, memory games and entertainment, all designed to boost self-esteem and foster a sense of community.
Guests and children shared a communal lunch before the event closed with appreciation remarks, distribution of gifts to children, caregivers and attendees, and a reaffirmation of commitment to collaborative care for vulnerable children.
Speaking on the vision of the initiative, Kafayat Azeez-Fashola, Founder and Director of Operations at Chrysalis Care Initiative, said: “Moment to Remember 2.0 isn’t just an event; it is a powerful affirmation of the resilience and potential within each child.
“By creating these joyful experiences, we are planting seeds of hope and building a foundation for brighter futures. The memories forged today will serve as a testament to their inherent worth and our unwavering belief in their ability to thrive.”
Chrysalis Care Initiative, through partnerships with like-minded organisations, said it remains committed to strengthening education, psychosocial support and holistic well-being for vulnerable children across Africa.
