Implementation of new minimum wage begins December ― Okowa

Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa has given the order for the immediate implementation of new minimum wage beginning from December 2019.

The State Head of Service, Mr Reginald Bayoko, made the disclosure, on Monday, during the 2019 Public Service Week in Asaba.

He quipped: “Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has given a marching order that the new minimum wage should be implemented in the December salary.”

According to him, the state government has constituted a committee to work out modalities for the immediate implementation of the new wage.

While speaking on the theme: “The Intersection of Youth Empowerment and Migration: Entrenching The Culture Of Good Governance, ICT and Innovation For Inclusive Service Delivery,” Bayoko said the state government was committed to the welfare of workers.

He, however, disclosed that no fewer than 273 ghost workers have been identified in the state.

He said the civil servants, whose appointments were suspended in 2015, would soon receive letters of recall from the Civil Service Commission.

Bayoko further disclosed that several cases of offences among officers had been recorded in the service, adding that sanctions had been meted to the erring officers.

While disclosing that over N500 million had been spent on Public Officers Vehicle Loan Scheme since 2015, Bayoko enthused that government had not erred with the pension of workers, because N21 billion had been released for payment of outstanding retirement benefits.
