The Imo State Police Commissioner, CP Aboki Danjuma, has deployed the command’s tactical teams to hunt down suspected armed killers of five Okigwe residents.
Working in synergy with other security agencies and local vigilantes, the teams are investigating a recent attack that killed five residents in the Ajanaumuna and Ezinachi communities of Okigwe LGA. The incident occurred on August 22, 2025.
In a statement issued on Monday in Owerri by the Imo State Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Okoye Henry, he said that during the attack, Edeh George who is a member of the local youth security team, and four villagers identified as Emeka Ezeagwula, Chikodi Ezeagwula, Chidi Chileke ‘mand Ejike Nwankwo, were fatally shot.
The PPRO confirmed that the assailants further set ablaze the residence of the youth security leader and destroyed five motorcycles.
Upon receipt of the distress report according to him, Police operatives swiftly mobilised to the scene, evacuated the victims to General Hospital, Okigwe, where doctors confirmed them dead on arrival.

Okoye said that the remains have been deposited at the hospital mortuary, while one survivor is currently receiving medical treatment.
Meanwhile CP Aboki Danjuma, who is personally leading an intense operation in Okigwe alongside other security agencies, has condemned the heinous act and assured that no stone will be left unturned in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
He stressed that those behind the attack will be made to face the full weight of the law.
The CP also prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased victims, while wishing the injured survivor a speedy recovery, and prayed that God grants the affected families the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
He urges residents to remain calm as security has been reinforced in Okigwe and its environs.
The CP encouraged members of the public to support the Police with credible and timely information that can aid ongoing investigations by reporting to the nearest Police Station or via 0803 477 3600.
