The Imo State Police command on Wednesday at the command premises paraded 64 suspects involved in various crimes such as kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, child stealing/trafficking, murder, fraud and PHCN vandals etc.
Parading the suspects, the Imo State Commissioner of Police, Mr Taiwo Lakanu said the command renewed strategy of proactive policing which had recorded success, leading to the arrest of large numbers of the suspects involved in various crimes.
According to him, the command recorded a breakthrough in the case of robbery and murder of one Oscar Okebata, an American veteran soldier who was robbed and murdered January 1.
The armed robbers and alleged murderers of the veteran soldier were Osondu Chukwu (29), Uchechukwu Onyekachi (30), Kelvin Nwoke (28) and Uchechukwu Promise (40).
The five suspects, according to the police were arrested in connection with the robbery and murder of Oscar Okebata of Achi Mbeiri, Imo State, who returned home for the yuletide last year, adding that the victim’s Samsung Note 5 handset was sold at N125,000, leading to the arrest of the suspected mastermind of the crime.
Mr Lakanu also explained that on February 8, following a distress call, operatives of the command arrested an armed robbery syndicate which trailed a victim after he had withdrawn a huge amount of money from a bank at Amakaohia.
But luck ran out of a syndicate member as he attempted to use a master key to open a Toyota landcruiser SUV.
The police commissioner also said that on February 2, operatives of the command arrested one Okwudiri Aluo (35), Obiti in Ohaji as he attempted to rob a petroleum dealer.
