The Chairman of Ohaji/Egbema Council Area of Imo State, Marcel Amadioha, has called for the continued sustenance of peace, security, advanced development, and improved living conditions in the areas.
He equally advised the stakeholders to continue to tolerate one another while working in unity and cordiality for the good and development of the areas.
Amadioha made the call while having an audience with the Association of Ohaji/Egbema Practising Journalists in Owerri on Saturday.
According to him, for the locality to enhance orderliness, peace, security and development, all hands must be actively on deck, while he encouraged both the political, religious and traditional leaders of the area to set aside any antagonism, bickering, rancour or avarice.
Amadioha, while describing Ohaji/Egbema as the most peaceful, orderly, beautiful, fertile and productive local government in Imo State, maintained that the people are always law-abiding and peaceful in the Imo LGA.
While hailing the youth of Ohaji/Egbema for being productive, good, resourceful, supportive and assertive, Amadioha appealed to them to always embrace love, tolerance, and dialogue to amicably resolve any issue, instead of resorting to violence, which he said does not produce good fruit.
The Chairman called on the state government to build more infrastructure in Ohaji/Egbema to propel the people to engage in meaningful activities, just as he urged oil companies operating in the area to start implementing the MOU, GMOU or PIA to avoid restiveness by their host communities.
He said: “We must come together, devise means to solve our issues. We call on our community leaders to be up and doing. All hands must be on deck; nobody can overrun Ohaji/Egbema because we have the culture of peace and security. Dialogue is the best approach to solve any issue relating to underdevelopment.”
The Chairman advised the people to embrace the oil conglomerates and allow them to develop their host communities.
“God blessed Ohaji/Egbema with human and material resources. Development is happening in the area gradually. The people, especially those in the Awarra Court Area, are making progress. This is very healthy,” he said.
He disclosed that the oil companies have started doing well and they need to be supported to intensify development, while he called on investors to continue to come into Ohaji/Egbema and invest to enjoy peace in Imo LGA.
He said: “In fact, Ohaji/Egbema is the most peaceful and orderly local government in Imo State”.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Association of Ohaji/Egbema Practising Journalists, Comrade Oloko Reginald, described the Executive Chairman of the Council as a pragmatic politician and charismatic leader.
He commended the chairman for redefining governance at the locality.
He said: “The Chairman has been doing well, helping people, maintaining peace and security, relating cordially with the people, performing creditably and responsibly.”
