The government of Imo State has approved ban on illegal touting and collection of illegal monies in the state henceforth
In a statement issued Wednesday in Owerri by the Secretary to Imo State Government Chief Cosmos Iwu, the state government observed regret for the resurgence of touting and illegal collection of levies by unauthorised persons, especially in Owerri and other towns in the state.
According to the statement, the Imo State Internal Revenue Service has been authorised to collect approved levies from those concerned.
The government therefore counselled the personnel to always be civil in the execution of their lawful duties.
It also directed all government agencies involved in the collection of levies in whatever form to liaise with the Imo State Internal Revenue Service, while those charged with the job of the control of traffic should concentrate on their duties and refrain from the extortion of motorists.
The state government threatened to deal with anyone severely who flouted the directive according to the law.
