Imo govt approves payment of monthly subvention to ISOPADEC statutory bodies

Governor Hope Uzodimma has approved the payment of monthly subvention to the affiliate statutory bodies of Imo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, (ISOPADEC).

Recalled that the payment of subventions to the statutory bodies was put on hold by past governments, which cited paucity of funds as the reason.

The Managing Director of ISOPADEC, Chief Charles Orie, disclosed this while speaking on the development in his office on Thursday, adding that Governor Uzodimma had once again demonstrated uncommon interest in the welfare of the people of the oil-producing areas of Imo State.

The affected bodies included ISOPADEC Youth Confederation, ISOPADEC Women Association, ISOPADEC Association of Physically Challenged Persons, and Traditional Rulers of Oil Mineral Producing Communities of Nigeria (TROMPCON).

Chief Orie further stated that the resumption of payment of the subvention is in line with the Commission’s revolution in infrastructure and massive rollout of transformative projects and initiatives across the oil-producing areas, the foundation anchored on a new regime of probity, fiscal discipline and excellent financial management.

The MD tasked the leadership of the various statutory bodies and associations to ensure that they run an inclusive administration by carrying all their members along.

He urged them to align their programmes in such a way that the funds released to them were utilised towards economically empowering their teeming members.

Chief Orie reminded them about the consequences of mismanagement and misuse of the accrued subventions, which include delay or denial of subsequent disbursements, which penalties the Commission would be determined to enforce.

He assured all ISOPADEC stakeholders of the Commission’s determination to continue to uphold its core mandate of discharging its statutory duties and obligations to its employees, the stakeholders and the government while soliciting for their support and understanding.
