The All Progressive Congress (APC) Imo State chapter has declared their full readiness to participate in the September 21st Local Government Area election in the state.

The State Publicity Secretary, Cajethan Duke, disclosed the party’s position to the Nigerian Tribune in Owerri on Wednesday.

He said that the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC) notices given to all political parties in the state came with a high level of preparation, adding that the APC has put every necessary arrangement in motion to ensure that the party participates effectively.

Duke disclosed that the party is ready for the election, having already concluded their issuance of nomination forms and conducted their screening of aspirants.

He said, “Our party is prepared for the election, and people have shown a high level of enthusiasm by coming out in large numbers to subscribe for forms.”

He acknowledged that the council election is sentimental to the party because it falls within the vision and renewed hope of Governor Hope Uzodimma’s administration to bring prosperity to the grassroots.

According to him, the conduct of the election would go a long way in bridging the gap between the local government and the state and between the local populace and democracy dividends.

While dismissing any form of rigging and imposition of candidates on the people during the election as it has never been the tendency of the party, Duke assured that the party would provide a level playing field for people to elect their choice candidates.

Regarding the conduct of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) instead of the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC) due to the recent judgment by the Supreme Court on the autonomy of LGAs, the state publicity secretary said that if INEC conducts the election, it will not be to the disadvantage of the political party.

Duke, who described it as not a threat, said that APC as a party has been winning elections conducted by INEC and would not fail to participate in the September LGA election.

He said, “INEC conducting the election is not a threat to a political party like APC. What is really an issue is the electability of the candidates. INEC has been conducting elections, and APC has been doing well.”

He reiterated the absolute confidence that the party has in ISIEC to conduct a credible election, adding that provided there are laid down rules to follow, the commission has integrity to maintain.

The party spokesman appealed to Imo people to continue to show their support and solidarity to APC as the only formidable party committed to putting smiles on the faces of the people.
