The family of the late nationalist Adegoke Adelabu, popularly known as Penkelemesi, has called on the government to honor their late patriarch in recognition of his contributions during his lifetime.

This appeal was made during a press conference held in Ibadan to announce an epic movie about the life of the late nationalist.

It will be recalled that Adelabu, who died in the year 1958 was the first National Vice President of National Council of Nigeria and the Cameroons, NCNC and a Minister of Natural Resources and Social Services.

One of the children of Adelabu, Adedoyin Adelabu, during the conference, urged the government to immortalise her father in the name of fairness just as they have done to his contemporaries.

Adding that such nationalists should not be forgotten and must be immortalised just like other nationalists of the country.

“ I would like the government to immortalize my father, late Alhaji Adegoke Adelabu. He deserves it and i urged the government to do something it as soon as possible.”

Speaking, the director, Imodoye Concept limited and executive producer of the movie, Femi Kehinde, explained that the movie is meant to x-ray the late nationalist personality, shortcomings and moral lessons for the society to learn from.

Kehinde, who is a former member of the House of Representatives between 1999-2003, also lamented that the late Adelabu is the only nationalist that has not been recognized by the government.

“This movie is meant to x-ray the late Adelabu personality, shortcomings and moral lessons the society can learn from his lifetimes.

“We decided to embark on this movie project on his biography because we felt it is the best way to teach the younger generations who no longer read books, moral lessons from his lifetimes.

“But sadly Baba Adelabu have not been immortalized by the government just like other nationalist.“

In his speech, the Maye Olubadan of Ibadan land and founding Chairman of the Adegoke Adelabu Foundation, Chief Lekan Alabi noted that “ a movie on the life and legacy of Adelabu, the movie will chronicle Adelabu‘s remarkable life from his early days as politician to his rise as a prominent leader in the western region”.
